This is a beautiful pair of African soapstone carvings.  They are of two women sitting on the floor and sifting flour the traditional way.

They have been beautifully sculpted out of soapstone showing the soapstone’s natural color.  They are predominantly creamy white in color, and have natural streaky grey highlights.  They have both been hand made out of a single piece of soap stone, and each has no joins.  The women’s hair and skirt has a course texture to it, which contrasts gorgeously with the smoothness of rest of the sculpture.  The soapstone is made smooth by continuously rubbing it with an abrasive material and water.  It has taken days to make and feels as smooth as a worn beach pebble.

This classic piece of African Art would look beautiful in any living space.

Both women are 11 inches high.  Because of their different sitting positions, one woman is 8 inches wide and the other is 5.5 inches wide.
