This is a beautiful pair of candle holders in the form of two African Masai women carrying something on their head. It is a very common sight in Africa to see women to carry things on their heads such as water from the river to their home. They are wearing the traditional Masai ‘Shuka’ which is a wrap, and the Masai beads around their necks.
This is a very unusual piece of African art because it depicts a very traditional scene in a very modern and abstract way.
The figures have been made of wrought iron welded together, then painted. One woman is slightly taller than the other.
The tall one 10.5 inches tall and the shorter one is 10 inches tall. They have large bases for stability. Both of their bases are about 3 inches wide.
