This African soapstone sculpture depicts looking at her child with love and a heart full of blessings, and the child looking up at the mother with awe and admiration. This is a very unusual piece, as there are many soapstone sculptures of a mother and baby, but very rarely can one obtain a sculpture of a mother and a slightly older child.
It has been beautifully sculpted out of soapstone showing the soapstone’s natural colors. It is predominantly creamy white in color, and has natural pink and brown, grey and some orange highlights. It has been hand made out of a single piece of soap stone, and has no joins. The soapstone is made smooth by continuously rubbing it with an abrasive material and water. It has taken days to make and feels as smooth as a worn beach pebble.
