This pair of bookends, will look truly beautiful on a shelf, their dark color will complement the colors of any books. They have been carved out of mahogany which is a very heavy wood, and been made to look like two elephants are holding the books in place. Each of the elephants have detachable tusks (made of cow bone, not ivory!). The white of the tusks are strikingly highlighted by the rich, brown color of the elephants.
A lot of effort and craftsmanship goes into carving these bookends. Musyoka the artist, explains that each of is carved separately, out of a part of a different part of wood, after they are almost complete, a lot of effort goes into perfecting them to ensure that they fit into each other without gaps. Hand crafting these bookends took Musyoka a week, and the fruit of his effort is visible in the finished product.
Each bookend is 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide. The elephant sculpture stands at 4.5 inches tall.
